The Institute of Applied Artificial Intelligence of the Guangdong-Hongkong-Macao Greater Baywas established in April 2019, with Tan Tieniu, a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, as chief development advisor, and Professor Yang Jinfeng as president. Aiming at fulfilling the needs of industrial intelligent transformation and development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the Institute carries out research in the field of AI technology and cooperates with high-quality industries and technical resources in the Greater Bay Area to create an artificial intelligence innovation and application R&D highland, empower the AI technology transformation of micro-, small- and medium-sized enterprises in the Greater Bay Area, and promote the healthy development of digital economy in the Greater Bay Area.
The Institute is now the main carrier of Guangdong Artificial Intelligence Innovation and Application Engineering Technology Center.The research mainly covers the fields of visual cognition, industrial vision, identity identification, intelligent security assessment, financial technology, fashion technology, intelligent arbitration, digital agriculture, voice processing, building health, and intelligent flight, and digital dentistry. Joint laboratories or applied R&D centers have been set up together with Shenzhen Mould-Tip, Zhongke Maihang Information Technology Co., Yinsheng Telecom, Chinatrans International Limited, Guangdong Modern Agricultural Equipment Research Institute, Shenzhen Aviation Association, Yingtaide Technology (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd, Shenzhen Sayed Information Technology, and Taly Aviation Technology Shenzhen Co.
The Institute is located on the 5th floor of the Academic Exchange Center at the Xili Lake Campus of Shenzhen Polytechnic, covering an area of about 700 square meters.At the Institute, there are 15 full-time researchers and 18 part-time researchers, including nine high-level talents in Shenzhen, one postdoctoral researcher, and eight scientific research assistants, as well as 32master's degree candidates in joined training programs.
The Institute focuses on talent training and academic exchanges and helps talents develop. It maintains academic cooperation with research institutions, academic organizations, and universities, such as Pengcheng Laboratory, Guangming Laboratory (Guangdong Digital Economy and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory), Hong Kong Society of Artificial Intelligence & Robotics, Guangdong Artificial Intelligence and Robotics, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Hong Kong Baptist University, University of Macau, Macau University of Science and Technology, and Shenzhen University.
