Shenzhen Polytechnic University (SZPU) is a public undergraduate school, which was founded in 1993 as Shenzhen Polytechnic. In June 2023, the Ministry of Education approved the establishment of Shenzhen Polytechnic University by integrating various resources based on Shenzhen Polytechnic. Since its establishment, SZPU has adhered to the fundamental task of cultivating talents with good characters, thus responding to direction of the country and the needs of Shenzhen. All the faculties and students of SZPU have been pioneering and forging ahead with hard work, and constantly innovating the teaching philosophy, school-running system and talent training models, thereby creating a record in a wide array of areas in China's higher vocational education. It maintains its position at the forefront among similar colleges and universities in China when it comes to comprehensive strength, and is regarded as "a flag" of China's higher vocational education. In 2019, the school was selected as one of top 10 A-grade high-level schools under the Construction Program for High-level Higher Vocational Schools and Specialties with Chinese Characteristics launched by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Finance.

The university now has three campuses, including Xili Campus, OCT Campus and Shenshan Campus, with a campus area of more than 4,500Muand a construction area totaling more than 1.1 million square meters. There are more than 2,200 faculty members and 27,000 full-time students. SZPU has set teaching units including School of undergraduate Education, School of Electronics and Communication Engineering, School of Artificial Intelligence, School of Electromechanical Engineering, School of Economics, School of Management, School of Communication, School of Art and Design, School of Foreign Languages and Business, School of Materials and Environmental Engineering, School of Architecture and Engineering, School of Food and Drug, School of Digital Creation and Animation, School of Automotive and Transportation, School of Medical Technology and Nursing, School of Vocational and Technical Education, School of Marxism, School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, School of Future Technology, and others. It has established 15 major groups, offering 6 full-time undergraduate majors and 88 full-time junior college majors.

Based on the positioning of vocational education, SZPU has achieved remarkable results in terms of talent cultivation. It has built 5 national professional teaching resource libraries, 8 national online boutique courses of TVET, won 16 national teaching achievement awards, 26 provincial first-class teaching achievement awards and above in the last three sessions, and won 1 special award of national teaching achievements in 2018, which is the special award never seen before in all levels and types of education activities in Guangdong Province. The school has 107 textbooks selected for the national "13th Five-Year Plan" and "14th Five-Year Plan" for TVET, and has won three awards in the program of national textbook building, including one special award. The students has won 3 medals in the First World Vocational College Skills Competition and the First Vocational Skills Competition of the People's Republic of China; in the past five years, they won 28 first prizes in the National Vocational Student Skills Competition, 18 medals (including 8 gold medals) in the China International College Students "Internet+" Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, and the Global Gold Medal in the International Genetically Engineered Machine competition for four consecutive years. The university has cultivated nearly 200,000 full-time graduates, and the initial employment rate of graduates has remained above 97%.

The university actively advances the reform of multiple modes of talent cultivation, and deepens the integration of production and education, and cooperation between schools and enterprises. The school has joint hands with Fortune 500 companies or industry-leading enterprises such as Huawei and BYD established 17 characteristic industrial colleges. It has built the first Huawei ICT Academy Support Center (IASC) certified and authorized by Huawei in China and signed cooperation agreements with 39 industry-leading enterprises. The mode featuring deep integration of industry and education built by the school has been listed by the National Development and Reform Commission as the "Shenzhen Experience" to be promoted nationwide.

The university has a high-level faculty with excellent quality and high moral character which is in line with the university's subject setting. There are 1,625 full-time teachers, with 42.03% of them holding doctoral degrees and 44.8% of them holding senior professional and technical titles, including 176 full-time teachers holding senior+ professional and technical titles. Among the full-time professional teachers, 90% of them are teachers with dual certificates or dual titles. There are more than 500 high-level talents at all levels, including 2 national teaching masters, 2 experts enjoying special subsidies from the State Council, 4 national teaching teams and 6 national technical experts; In addition, the school has introduced 1 Nobel Prize-winning team and 4 academician teams, and it has 1 teaching team featuring Huang Dainian-type released by the Ministry of Education.

The university adheres to the orientation of applied scientific research of “enhancing innovation capacity and cooperation with business”, thus constantly improving its scientific research and innovation capabilities. In the past five years, the university has accessed 233 scientific research projects at provincial and ministerial levels and above, including 68 projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China; the accumulated scientific research fund reached more than 700 million yuan, and the average annual fund for horizontal technical services and training is more than 52 million yuan; the university has gained 382 national invention patents and PCT patents, formulated 107 standards at international, national, industrial and local levels, and covered nearly 2,000 small and medium-sized enterprises using its technology and services; It has won 12 scientific research awards above the provincial and ministerial levels, including 3 at the national level and 9 at the provincial and ministerial levels; it has set up 27 provincial and ministerial scientific research platforms, 5 academician workstations, 12 applied technology innovation centers, 10 public technology service platforms, and 10 high-end think tanks and creative centers. The university has been ranked among the top 200 in the country for two consecutive years.

The university has made every effort to expand its globally-oriented network, established long-term and stable cooperative relationships with 186 institutions in 41 countries and regions, and built 9 overseas TVET and training centers, as well as 10 international TVET platforms. It has cooperated with the Vocational Training Council of Hong Kong in organizing five joint training programs for talents, and jointly constructed the Special TVET Park in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. The University established the "UNESCO Research and Training Center for TVET Programs in Asia and Africa" and the "UNESCO Global Contact Center for TVET", and successfully applied to become a permanent school for the first UNESCO Digitization of Vocational and Technical Education" in China, the Belt and Road International Conference on TVET, and the Hundred People's Forum on China's Practice of Modern Belt and Road International Conference on TVET. The number of participants in the school's "Chinese + Vocational Skills” training program for overseas personnel has reached more than 200,000, and more than 2,000 people have attended in the training program targeting professionals from countries along the "Belt and Road".
