In May 1993,
the previous Higher Education Bureau of Guangdong Province hosted a symposium for the establishment of Shenzhen Polytechnic.
In 2000 and 2004,
Shenzhen Vocational and Technical School and Shenzhen Health School were merged into Shenzhen Polytechnic
Developing and prospering, this school cultivates innovative, quality, and highly skilled talents with the goal of "pursuing ethical and academic development in parallel, equally emphasizing learning and thinking and underlining both theories and practice". (2006-2015)
Shenzhen Polytechnic has systematically put forward the reform of culture education, compound education, and collaborative education, formed the schooling model through "interconnection of governments, schools, industries, and enterprises and all-round promotion of production, education, research and application", and established the talent cultivation goal of "pursuing ethical and academic development in parallel, equally emphasizing learning and thinking and underlining both theories and practice". Shenzhen Polytechnic continued to lead the reform and development of China's higher vocational education, built the "Shenzhen Polytechnic Model" of connotation development, and opened the era of connotation development, innovative development, and character development.
In December 2006,
Shenzhen Polytechnic was included in the first batch of project units to establish the national demonstration higher vocational colleges.
In December 2008,
Shenzhen Polytechnic-Huawei Cooperative Training Center was officially established, which is the first authorized training center set up by Huawei in China.
In September 2011,
Shenzhen Polytechnic held a ceremony to launch the construction of the volunteer school, and the construction of the volunteer school became an important grip of the school's cultural education

Shenzhen Polytechnic established the first entrepreneurship academy among Shenzhen universities and colleges

the Third Congress of the CPC of Shenzhen Polytechnic set the strategic development goal of "one leading, three services, five positionings".
the school signed a cooperation agreement with UNESCO, and in the same year the school was approved to establish the "UNESCO Research and Training Centre for Vocational Education Programme in Asia and Africa"

In November 2017,
Maker Faire Shenzhen was held in Shenzhen Polytechnic. Eighty-six projects involving 300 student makers from Shenzhen Polytechnic competed with projects by the world's well-known elite makers.
