The predecessor of the School of Digital Creation and Animation was the Animation Department founded in June 2003. The School was set up in April 2005, renamed the School of Animation in May 2005 and to its current name in March 2015. The School offers five different majors, Animation Design (national demonstration major), Animation Production Technology, Game Art Design (national backbone major and brand major in Guangdong Province), Radio, Film and TV Production (key major in first-class higher vocational schools in Guangdong Province), and Digital Media Art Design. It also offers courses on the public platform of the Teaching and Research Office. The School holds theRadio and TV Program Production and Business Operation License and Domestic TV Cartoon Program Distribution License issued by the National Radio and Television Administration.
The School currently has 1,380 students divided into 47 classes in three grades, 79 faculty members, including three professors, 19 associate professors, six doctors, one designer ranked among the top ten young designers of Guangdong Province, one famous teacher under the Guangdong Special Support Program, and one famous teacher of higher education in Guangdong Province, 40 training workshops with a total training area of 6,000 m2, and over 3,000 pieces of equipment with a total value of RMB 45 million.
Aiming at the digital creation industry, the School of Digital Creation and Animation focuses on creative design, technology integration, content production and cultural and creative derivatives to cultivate creative and innovative inter-disciplinary professionals of high quality and skill levels, specializing in creative design and production.The School houses the Shenzhen Digital Creation Public Technology Service Platform, a National Productive Training Base—Public Training Center for Specialized Groups in Digital Content Industry in Higher Vocational Schools, and a National Collaborative Innovation Center for Applied Technology—Digital Creation "Culture + Science & Technology" Collaborative Innovation Center.
