He said that the Positive Psychology Research Center, as the first positive psychology research center of higher vocational colleges in China, fully embodies the “pioneering and hardworking” spirit of Shenzhen Special Economic Zone. Although the AI age has come, it cannot replace empathy, creativity, and ability to envision the future, which are exactly the directions of positive psychology research. He will lead the School of Social Sciences of Tsinghua University to strengthen cooperation with SZPT in positive education, team building, scientific research and other fields, so as to make the research center better, stronger and bigger with distinctive features and highlights.
Yang Xinbin said that after 30 years of development, positive psychology has become one of the most influential theories in the field of psychology and education, showing a wide range of application prospects in education development, social stability, public health and other aspects. It is hoped that under the guidance of Professor Peng Kaiping, the concept of positive psychology can be introduced into the college’s mental health education to improve the happiness quality of teachers and students. He hoped that the center would combine theoretical research with front-line practice, enrich theories in the process of addressing practical issues, and further promote the development of positive psychology in China through pioneering work such as scientific research and social services.
Peng Kaiping was giving an academic lecture to teachers and students.
Later, Yang Xinbin awarded Peng Kaiping an appointment letter of chief consultant for the Positive Psychology Research Center. After the meeting, the two sides had in-depth discussions on team building, talent training, scientific research training and other aspects, and reached an intention on further cooperation.
Positive psychology is a science about happiness that arose in the 20th century. It mainly studies and cultivates people’s superior character and positive orientation through scientific methods, so as to obtain a sense of happiness, joy and satisfaction. Tsinghua University is the first in China to carry out positive psychology research and practice, and promote the “positive education” based on positive psychology theory throughout the country, which has been proved to greatly improve students’ mental health level and academic performance, significantly enhance students’ self-confidence, optimism, learning commitment, and resistance to frustration, and effectively prevent and reduce depression, anxiety and other psychological problems.

The co-construction of the Positive Psychology Research Center with Tsinghua University is an important milestone in SZPT’s “Happiness+” project. Since 2016, SZPT has been exploring the establishment of a “Happiness+” education and teaching system with the core of cultivating the ability of teachers and students to create a happy life. In 2019, SZPT officially released the“Happiness+” Project Construction Implementation Plan, focusing on guiding the teachers and students to build a “self-respecting, confident, rational, peaceful and positive” social mentality, and leading them to have the core quality of feeling happiness. After years of exploration, SZPT has offered a series of “Happiness+” courses, trained a number of “Happiness+” course certified lecturers, upgraded a mental health service organization for all teachers, students, family members and the society, and built several “Happiness+” bases, comprehensively improving the happiness index of teachers and students, making teachers happy to work, students happy to learn, and the society happy to see.
