President of Shenzhen Polytechnic Delivers a Keynote Speech

The 22nd Cross-strait Applied (Technical and Vocational) Higher Education Symposium was successfully held both online and offline.

The 22nd Cross-strait Applied (Technical and Vocational) Higher Education Symposium (hereinafter referred to as the "Symposium") was successfully held on December 14. Undertaken by Shanghai Polytechnic University, the Symposium is attended by representatives of other sponsors and partners on both sides of the Taiwan Strait through online ways. Themed on "Reform and Innovation of Applied Higher Education in the Future", the Symposium invited more than 100 presidents, experts, and scholars from both sides of the Taiwan Strait to conduct extensive and in-depth discussions on this topic, share and exchange the latest research results and practical experience of applied higher education. Xu Jianling, President of Shenzhen Polytechnic, was invited to deliver a speech entitled "Digital Process and Higher Vocational Education Reform — Taking Shenzhen Polytechnic as an Example". Li Yue, Vice President of Shenzhen Polytechnic, attended the Symposium.

Xu Jianling was invited to deliver a speech entitled "Digital Process and Higher Vocational Education Reform — Taking Shenzhen Polytechnic as an Example".

Xu Jianling said that the digital economy has become a key driving force for global economic growth, and the progress of digital technology will effectively promote the transformation of education. From the ten aspects such as the major structure optimization, teachers' ability transformation, major connotation transformation, and teaching mode transformation, he elaborated how Shenzhen Polytechnic promoted new technologies and related knowledge represented by artificial intelligence, big data, and blockchain into specialties, courses, teaching materials, and classrooms, and establish a docking mechanism between vocational education and digital economy, with the construction of major groups as the starting point and focusing on digital transformation. Finally, he shared the expected results and experiences of the digital transformation of higher vocational education.

In the afternoon, five sub-forums were set up for the paper exchange and discussion, with the theme of "the historical mission and function reconstruction of higher education in the intelligent era", "the role and positioning of applied higher education in the future higher education ecological chain", "the essence of technology and the cultivation of application-oriented talents", "the rise of strategic emerging industries and the reform of the integration of industry and education", "the ability standard of college teachers and major development in the future", "smart factory: teaching reform in the learner experience center", and "the power of thought: the conflict and blending of scientific culture and humanistic culture". Experts and scholars read the papers around the topics, thoroughly analyzed the changes and innovations of future applied higher education from different perspectives, and contributed wisdom to the future development of higher education. Shenzhen Polytechnic has submitted six papers, and the contributing teachers have conducted an online exchange at sub-forums.

In order to encourage students to apply what they have learned and provide a platform for students on both sides of the Taiwan Strait to show their creativity, give full play to what they have learned, and exchange with each other, the "Craftsmanship Cup" Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition for Students on Both Sides of the Taiwan Strait was also held at this Symposium, with a total of 7 participating teams from each sponsoring unit and cooperative unit. After fierce competition, the "Intelligent Micro-acoustic Detection Project" of the representative team of Shenzhen Polytechnic finally won the only First Prize and the Most Commercial Award. After over 140 days of incubation in Lihu Talent Creation Camp after winning the Gold Medal of the Creative Group in the 7th China International College Students' "Internet Plus" Innovation & Entrepreneurship Competition, this project has been mature in business logic and road demonstration.

Initiated by Shenzhen Polytechnic, Shanghai Polytechnic University, National Taipei University of Technology, and Beijing Union University in 1999, jointly hosted by Chienkuo Technology University, Lunghwa University of Science and Technology, and Chaoyang University of Technology, the Symposium has been held every year in turn in universities on both sides of the Taiwan Straits for 22 consecutive sessions so far. It aims to strengthen communication and exchange between applied higher education circles on both sides of the Taiwan Strait, discuss cooperation approaches and new ideas, study the changes and development of applied higher education under the trend of globalization, and jointly promote the development of education undertakings on both sides of the Taiwan Strait.
