Recently, the Ministry of Education awarded the certificates of the Outstanding Achievement Award for Scientific Research in Colleges and Universities (Science and Technology). The project “Key Technology and Application of New Rose Varieties Breeding with High Quality and High Yield”, led by Professor Gao Junping from China Agricultural University and jointly completed by Professor Li Yonghong of SZPT, won the first prize of the Science and Technology Progress Award. Our college is the 5^th completion unit.

The project has been committed to the evaluation of germplasm resources of Chinese rose, the mapping of the genome of the quadruple embodiment rose, the development of molecular markers, and the research and promotion of key technologies for the cultivation of new varieties. Li Yonghong is responsible for the mechanism of Chinese rose organ development, the cultivation of new rose varieties, the promotion and application of cultivation and postharvest technology in South China, and the cultivation of Chinese rose in gardens, urban and rural greening in South China.

It is reported that the Outstanding Achievement Award for Scientific Research in Colleges and Universities (Science and Technology) is set up by the Ministry of Education to encourage teachers, scientific and technological workers and scientific research organizations in colleges and universities who have made outstanding contributions in promoting scientific and technological progress. It is an important science and technology award second only to the State Natural Science Award, the State Technological Invention Award and the State Science and Technology Progress Award. It is open to institutions of higher learning across the country, with review and selection by national peer experts, and the competition is fierce.
