On May 14-15, the Costume Creative Design and Craft Segment of 2023 National Vocational College Skills Competition (Higher Vocational Group) was held in Shandong Vocational College of Science and Technology. The team composed of the students (2021) Pang Rui and Wu Airong, under the instruction of Yang Qiuhua and Zeng Shinan as teachers of costume design in the School of Art and Design, stood out from 51 teams from other colleges and universities, and won the second prize of the national competition.
This year’s costume segment was the opening ceremony event, with only one month from the end of the provincial competition to the fixing of time for the national competition. Compared with previous years, the competition items had considerable adjustments, mainly reflecting the concept of “integration of vocational education and high school education, integration of industry and education, and integration of science and innovation”. The segment matched the ability requirements for costume designers, pattern makers and other positions, and combined with the production needs of enterprises and national vocational standards, focused on the assessment of the contestants’ practical ability, innovation and creativity level and on-site operation norms, and testing the comprehensive vocational ability of the contestants. The adjustments of competition items increased the difficulty of preparation and competition accordingly. Under the circumstances of tight schedule and heavy tasks, the team withstood the pressure and worked day and night for a month, and finally achieved the ideal result, showing the solid skills, excellent teamwork ability and good psychological quality of the team members.
