The book, which took 30 years to write, is considered "the most complete critical biography about Mu Fu to date". Chen Qianwen, vice chairman of Shenzhen CPPCC, Wu Dinghai, director of Shenzhen Social Science Academy, Yang Xinbin, secretary of the Party Committee and president of Shenzhen Polytechnic, Wang Hui, deputy secretary of the Party Committee, and Zhang Qingning, director of Sichuan Literature and Art Publishing House, attended the book conference presided over by Vice President Li Yue. Zhang Xiaomin, who used to be the vice chairman of Shenzhen CPPCC, co-chairman of the Shenzhen Municipal Committee of China Association for Promoting Democracy, and vice president of Shenzhen Polytechnic, is now a counselor of Guangdong Provincial People's Government. As a great writer, he has written many books about literature, history and education, and has published monographs and edited more than 30 books of various kinds. Mr. Zhang Xiaomin started to write this newly-released academic monograph in 1990 when he worked in Sichuan. After transferred to Shenzhen, he always kept it in mind and continued to study, and eventually published this book in early 2020 after 30 years.

Mu Fu was the youngest and last poet of the famous July School in the development course of modern Chinese poetry. He made his debut in 1946 and created works in various literary forms, including poems, novels, essays, full-length novels, and short stories. He also published albums of paintings and photos of stage costumes as well as books on the theory of literature and art. Engaged in literary creation for more than 70 years, Mu Fu was awarded the certificate of honor and medal for the "70-year Literary Creation" by the China Writers Association and the medal in commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the People's Republic of China in 2019. Mu Fu died of an illness at the age of 89 in this March.

Zhang Xiaomin was well acquainted with Mu Fu for many years and got many first-hand materials about the poet. This critical biography describes the extraordinary life of Mu Fu in all aspects, vividly shares many important creation experiences, and comprehensively combs through and comments on Mu Fu's representative works.

Guests' comments

Chen Qianwen: "Mr. Zhang Xiaomin is a prolific writer and a seeker in the academic community. For many years, he has been absorbed in writing, spread the themes of the times, and delivered positive energy in the fields of literature, history, and poetry where he has realized great achievements. In his large number of works, he has depicted life, phenomena, and spirit, winning a reputation for 'Shenzhen School'. This new book is of great historical and cultural significance and is also a masterpiece for studying modern Chinese writers and learning about the development history of modern literature and art."

Yang Xinbin: "Mr. Zhang Xiaomin has continued writing for decades and created lots of works. He is a model of the later generation. He is philanthropic and responsible. His monographs, compiled works, papers, poems, and essays are all filled with rich patriotism. The newly-publishedCritical Biography of Mu Fuvividly describes the legendary life of Mr. Mu Fu and reveals the intricate development history of the new poetry in modern Chinese literature, providing important reference value and academic value for readers and researchers."

Wu Dinghai: "In his career of teaching, administration, and academic research for decades, Mr. Zhang Xiaomin has created many works as he never stopped writing. He is impressively persistent as a scholar. He can enjoy the joys of life now, but he is still busy yet happy with the textual research of ancient books and the exploration of the ancient and modern times. It is of the great inspiring significance for citizens in modern metropolises, notably young people, to read the poems of Mr. Mu Fu and taste the life experience of the author."

Zhang Qingning: "Mr. Mu Fu was down to earth and made remarkable achievements step by step from the 20th century. His over-70-year creation career witnessed the changes in the better part of the 20th century, left numerous literary works, and also disclosed the tortuous development of the Chinese new poetry. We are gratified to present this book to Mr. Mu Fu before his long sleep. It took Mr. Zhang Xiaomin 30 years to study, collect materials, and finalize this book in which the nearly-90-year life of Mu Fu, his literary and dramatic works, and corresponding analysis and evaluation are introduced in detail. It has been the most complete critical biography of Mu Fu so far."
