We value morals and profession equally and make ceaseless self-improvement
Shenzhen Polytechnic University (SZPU) attaches great importance to communication and cooperation with universities in Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan. Over the years, we have exchanged high-level visits, carried out teacher and student exchanges, and continuously deepened and expanded educational cooperation with universities from these regions. The main exchange projects include exchange camps, teacher training, teacher visits, joint exhibitions, academic meetings, cooperative school running, and cooperative scientific research. Since its establishment, SZPU has dispatched more than 500 batches of teachers for a total of over 4,000 exchange visits, and more than 80 batches of students totaling over 2,000 exchange visits to universities in Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan for short-term exchanges and study. Meanwhile, we have also facilitated roughly 10,000 exchange visits where teachers and students from universities in Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan have come to SZPU.
In 2008, SZPU signed a cooperative school running agreement with the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education of the Hong Kong Vocational Training Council. In the same year, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, it was decided that SZPU would start enrolling students from Hong Kong in a double degree program with joint training in Shenzhen and Hong Kong. This project has now been running for 12 years. So far, 215 students have been enrolled and 179 have graduated.
Every term, the Curriculum Committee made up of teachers from the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering of SZPU and the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education's Haking Wong Campus would get together for a meeting. The School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering has established the Flexible Teaching and Research Office of the ""Higher Diploma in Electrical Service Engineering"" course, allowing teachers to go to Hong Kong to study, discuss and prepare course documents that meet Hong Kong's requirements. The content, structural design, and teaching documents of the course provided by SZPU meet the requirements of Hong Kong course standards and are subject to third-party review by the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers. SZPU is the only higher vocational college to carry out this kind of cross-border cooperation, greatly highlighting the school's strength, capability, and condition in organizing such projects.
The project has received unanimous praise from Hong Kong teachers, students, and parents, and has been reported on by China Youth Daily and Southern Metropolis Daily. In March 2020, the Project ""Exploration and Practice of Cross-border Joint Cultivation for Higher Diploma Talents in Electrical Service Engineering in Shenzhen & Hong Kong"" won the First Prize of Guangdong Education and Teaching Achievement Award (Vocational Education).
The Scheme for Exchange of Staff and Students among Universities between Mainland China and Hong Kong, and Macao (the ""Ten Thousand People Plan"") is a government-funded plan established by the Ministry of Education. The Scheme was established in accordance with the Letter of Intent on further strengthening exchange and co-operation signed by Mainland and Hong Kong representatives of the higher education sector in 2012. The aim is to promote students from Hong Kong to carry out short-, medium-, and long-term academic and scientific research exchanges in Mainland China. The Scheme was previously only implemented within the scope of key undergraduate institutions in Project 985 or Project 211, and higher vocational colleges were not included until 2015 when SZPU became the first higher vocational institution to be included. So far, SZPU has applied for approval of 36 projects and has received funds of more than RMB 4 million. To date, over 800 teachers and students from Hong Kong have participated in the Scheme.
In 1998, under the initiative of Mr. Yu Zhongwen, then president of SZPU, and Mr. Zhang Tianjin, then President of Taipei University of Technology, supported by Beijing Union University and Shanghai Polytechnic University, a platform for cross-strait higher technical and vocational education exchange and interaction was jointly initiated and established through holding relevant seminars. The following year, the Cross-Strait Conference on Higher Technical and Vocational Education (hereinafter referred to as the ""Conference""), jointly launched by SZPU, Beijing Union University, Taipei University of Technology, and Shanghai Polytechnic University was held in Beijing, Shanghai, and Shenzhen in 1999. Since then, the four institutions have taken turns to host the annual Conference and a cross-strait interactive platform for higher vocational education has been established to promote the common development of higher vocational education on both sides of the strait.
As of 2021, the Conference has been held 22 times and over the years, a total of almost 7,000 teachers and students from both sides of the strait have attended it, making it the most attended and influential Conference of its kind. SZPU has successfully hosted the Conference five times, in 2001, 2005, 2009, 2014, and 2018. Over the years, over 200 higher vocational institutions from 20 different provinces in Mainland China and more than 20 higher technical institutions in Taiwan have used this platform to further develop the higher technical and vocational education sector and build strong and fruitful friendships.
