From September 5 to 14, a group of 48 students and faculty members from Singapore’s Ngee Ann Polytechnic participated in a 10-day overseas immersion program at Shenzhen Polytechnic University (SZPU). Organized by SZPU’s Office of International Exchange and Cooperation, the program aimed to give students the opportunity to experience the culture of different regions and countries, fostering cross-cultural understanding and awareness.
Throughout the 10-day program, the visiting delegation explored Shenzhen’s innovation hubs, including tours of landmark locations such as the Qianhai Exhibition Hall and the Qianhai Youth Innovation Factory, where they witnessed the city’s innovative pulse firsthand. The group also visited Lianhua Mountain Park, appreciating the harmonious coexistence of nature and culture, and toured major tech companies like Han’s Laser and UBTECH Robotics, gaining insight into the cutting edge of Shenzhen’s technological advancements. Additionally, the delegation explored historical sites such as Nantou Ancient Town and Gankeng Hakka Town, experiencing the unique blend of ancient and modern in Shenzhen. The visitors also attended lectures on Chinese culture and ICT development, prepared by SZPU faculty, and participated in hands-on activities like mooncake-making and intangible cultural heritage experiences.
At the closing ceremony, Yang Congkun, Deputy Director of SZPU’s Office of International Exchange and Cooperation, expressed his hopes that this program would serve as a platform for young people from both schools to exchange ideas, broaden their horizons, and build mutual understanding, paving the way for a brighter shared future. Wu Shaohui, a faculty member from Ngee Ann Polytechnic’s School of Infocomm Technology, thanked SZPU for its thoughtful arrangements and expressed hopes that the program would deepen the bond between the students and strengthen the friendship between the two institutions.
Though the exchange program was coming to an end, the seeds of friendship had already taken root in the hearts of all participants. Many students shared their reflections on the experience. Liu, a student from Singapore, said, “This exchange was a rare opportunity—not only did I learn a lot, but I also felt the warmth and inclusiveness of the Chinese students. I will cherish these wonderful memories, and I hope to return to Shenzhen one day.” Li, a student from SZPU, also commented, “Spending time with our friends from Singapore taught me so much—not just about language and culture, but also about mutual understanding and respect. This experience showed me that culture knows no boundaries.” The students and teachers reluctantly bid farewell, exchanging souvenirs and taking photos together as a memento.
The successful conclusion of this event not only strengthened the bond between SZPU and Ngee Ann Polytechnic but also laid a solid foundation for further collaboration in vocational education. Just like a bird spreading its wings, the path of educational cooperation between Shenzhen and Singapore is sure to soar higher and travel farther.
