From September 15 to 25, a delegation of 22 students and faculty from Singapore’s Institute of Technical Education (ITE) visited the School of Telecommunications at Shenzhen Polytechnic University (SZPU) for an enriching exchange. The visitors were warmly welcomed by their counterparts at SZPU, where they engaged in a series of professional workshops and cultural activities.
Professional Workshops: Igniting Innovation Through Collaboration
During the ten-day program, participants from both SZPU and ITE delved into core telecommunications courses and technical discussions. The ITE team was given comprehensive tours of SZPU’s state-of-the-art facilities, including the Huawei ICT Training Center and the Integrated Circuit Key Process Training Center. They also participated in hands-on professional training sessions, deepening their understanding of telecommunications through practical experience. A notable highlight was the interactive lunch discussions, where students and faculty from both institutions enthusiastically exchanged ideas on cutting-edge technology, expanding their academic perspectives and enhancing their technical skills.
Cultural Experience: Celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival Together
The exchange program coincided with the Mid-Autumn Festival, and the School of Telecommunications organized special cultural activities, including mooncake-making workshops and a Mid-Autumn Festival fair at Chongli Academy. The ITE delegation had the opportunity to learn the art of making traditional Chinese mooncakes and experienced the vibrant festive atmosphere, gaining a deeper understanding of Chinese culture. The fair also allowed them to explore the diversity and richness of Chinese traditions.
Additionally, visits to the Nanshan Museum and the Shenzhen Museum of Contemporary Art and Urban Planning offered the ITE group valuable insights into China’s long history and the dynamic development of its modern cities. These cultural experiences not only strengthened friendships between the two groups but also deepened their appreciation for Chinese culture.
Industry Visits: Exploring Career Paths and Industry Trends
To provide a broader perspective on the industry, the School of Telecommunications arranged visits to leading companies. The ITE delegation, alongside SZPU students, toured renowned firms such asDOBOT Technology Co., Ltd. and iSoftStone. They gained in-depth insights into the latest achievements and experiences in technology research and development, product innovation, and market applications within the companies. Direct discussions with industry professionals also helped them clarify their career goals and understand future industry trends.
This exchange between ITE and SZPU not only fostered deeper connections and understanding but also laid a solid foundation for future academic cooperation and cultural exchange between the two institutions. SZPU’s School of Telecommunications remains committed to fostering an open and inclusive environment, actively pursuing collaborations with domestic and international universities and enterprises to promote the growth of global exchange programs.
As a key partner of SZPU in Singapore, ITE is a government institution under Singapore’s Ministry of Education. Following the principles of reciprocal exchange, ITE has sent faculty and student delegations to SZPU for four consecutive years from 2016 to 2019, while SZPU has sent its representatives to ITE during the summer for similar exchange programs.
