On June 20, the 3^rd International Students’ Chinese Language Proficiency Demonstration & Award Ceremony was held in the Traditional Chinese Culture Studies Hall of SZPT. Yang Congkun, Deputy Director of International Office, Wang Jun, head of Chinese language teaching, Chinese language teachers and all international students participated in the event.

The event kicked off with a speech by Yang Congkun. He said that through today’s stage, the students could exchange with each other about the cultures ofvarious countries, and on the basis of understanding the cultural differences, find the meeting point of cultures, tell Chinese stories well, spread the voice of China, and become envoys to promote the friendship and cooperation between China and other countries.

In the Chinese language proficiency demonstration activity of this semester, the students made short Chinese language videos according to different themes and applying what they had learned at ordinary times. After the careful review by the teachers in the early stage, a total of 24 excellence awards and 22 participation awards were selected. The deputy director Yang Congkun and the teacher Wang Jun presented certificates and prizes to the winning students respectively. At the site, the representatives of students from junior and middle classes introduced the beautiful Chinese cities in their eyes based on their own experiences. The students from advanced classes wrote, directed and performed themselves to interpret the idioms they usually learned with their own understanding. A group of 24 students from the China-Africa construction management class brought a series of songs in Chinese language. The students from the online class reported their learning achievements in a semester by form of video. The event also featured a surprise guest named Maisa from Espirito Santo, Brazil. She has been attending our online Chinese language courses and is now studying for her doctoral degree in Hong Kong. She took time out to talk with the teachers at SZPT. She said that learning Chinese language was a challenge, but it brought her many opportunities.

In addition to the normal classroom learning for students this semester, the International Office (School of International Education) has made full use of various resources to take students out of campus for study. From the end of May to the beginning of June, 16 representatives of international students went to Hechi, Guangxi to participate in a week-long cultural workshop. The students from the China-Africa construction management class went to Chengdu to participate in the Future Africa Project Youth Camp. These programs were well received by the students, who said that during the process, they enjoyed the beautiful scenery, experienced the customs and acquired a deep understanding of the culture in different parts of China.
