Students from School of Food and Drug Won the Second Prize in the Agricultural Product Quality and Safety Detection Segment of the National Competition

On August 24-26, the “Agricultural Product Quality and Safety Detection” segment of the 2022 National Vocational Students Skills Competition sponsored by the Ministry of Education and other departments was held in Yangling, Shaanxi Province. After fierce competition, the Guangdong team, composed of two students Zhu Yongxin and Huang Zhuomin from the School of Food and Drug, won the second prize in this competition.

It is learnt that the “Agricultural Product Quality and Safety Detection” segment lasted for three days, and a total of 53 teams composed of 106 contestants from all over the country participated in the event. The contents of this competition include pesticide residue detection and heavy metal pollution detection, divided into five modules: basic theory test, sample pretreatment, sample detection, data processing, three-dimensional simulation of atomic absorption and gas chromatography, and theoretical examination, designed to comprehensively examine the students’ basic theoretical knowledge, the basic operation skills, the overall grasp and application of the operation process, as well as the operation civilization and safety consciousness in the whole experiment process, with focus on their ability to use modern large-scale analytical instruments (gas chromatograph, atomic absorption spectrophotometer) to detect pesticide residues or heavy metal pollutions and the ability to implement national and industrial standards and specifications. The competition was conducted in the form of teams, and each team was composed of two students.

This is the first national competition in which the students from the major of food inspection and detection technology at SZPT participated, which is of guiding significance to promote the food quality and safety, improve the professional quality and skills of students majoring in food nutrition and health, deepen the “integration of post, course, competition and certificate” mechanism for training of high-quality technical talents, and enhance the teaching level of practical skills.
