Students from School of Automotive and Transportation Engineering Won Two First Prizes in Provincial Rail Vehicle Technology Competition

Date: Mar 14, 2022

On March 13, as the last student who lives in Meizhou sent the message of arriving home safely, two teams from the major of urban rail in the School of Automotive and Transportation Engineering who participated in the “Rail Vehicle Technology Competition of 2021-2022 Professional Skills Competition for Vocational College Students in Guangdong Province” beat the host and both won the first prize, occupying two of the only three first prize slots available, a complete success in the competition.

In 2021, the team from the major of urban rail participating in the rail vehicle technology competition established a competition echelon training mechanism by relying on the student society “Urban Rail Transit Association”, and carried out practical drills through the Shenzhen Skills Competition, laying a good training foundation for the new members of Session 2020. However, the sudden outbreak of the epidemic disrupted the college’s teaching scheme and the team’s training arrangement, and the contestants’ plan to return to the college for sprint training was scrapped. SZPT noticed the difficulties of the competition team and mobilized all departments of the college to provide full support for the normal participation of the contestants. In order to ensure the qualification for participation in the competition, under the premise of epidemic prevention and control, the contestants were rushed to the place near the organizer 14 days in advance on February 25; in order to practice as much as possible, the training room helped prepare lots of components and tools; in order to prepare relevant documents, on-campus and off-campus instructors worked together to take identification cards and office materials locked in student dormitories…the cooperation of teachers from all departments ensured that the contestants could show up on time.

However, with no access to actual equipment for more than 50 days before the competition, and the absence of crucial sprint training, how to help the contestants return to their normal state and improve the competition ability has become a problem. Therefore, during the closed period in Guangzhou, the contestants brought a full set of competition tools at the request of instructors including Chen Zhaomeng, Hu Songhua, Peng Peng, Cai Chenguang and Liao Yuxing, and carried out virtual training without physical objects while not missing online classes. Rely on memory when the equipment is absent, and think more if there is no opportunity for practice. The four contestants selected Wang Xingxing from Urban Rail Class 3 of Session 2020 as the training leader, and organized them to have video discussions with their instructors every day during the 14 days, disassemble each module of the competition step by step, and list the tasks, actions, positions and tools of each contestant in each step. The task was accurate to minute, and the tools at hand were picked up to simulate actions over and over again, and make constant adjustments, so as to form competition task execution standards suitable for each team before the competition.

On March 11, thanks to proper early deployment, the two teams from the major of urban rail successfully passed the report registration. According to the competition arrangement of the host college, the teachers and students took separate actions to find out the rules and equipment in the team leader meeting and the open tour. After returning to the hotel, they held tactical discussions until 11:30 at night, and made full preparations for the competition process and contingency plans. In the competition on the second day, although they encountered unexpected situations such as equipment failure and schedule adjustment, the four students from the major of urban rail all withstood the pressure and stabilized their mind. They completed all the competition modules early within the specified time, and even got full marks in all the theoretical competition units. Finally, the two teams of Wang Xingxing, Lin Zhuke, Lin Zehan and Guo Minghao from the major of urban rail of Session 2020 all won the first prize.
