On October 22, a delegation from the Federal University of Espírito Santo (UFES), a partner institution in Brazil, visited our university, led by Maria José Pontes, Professor in Electrical Engineering Department and Head of the International Office’s Cooperation Agreements Department, and Professor Marcelo Eduardo Vieira Segatto. The delegation explored avenues for advancing technical and vocational education and training between the two institutions. UFES is recognized for its academic programs in humanities, science, engineering, and health, and holds a respected position within Brazil’s higher education system for its research and teaching excellence.
In the morning, the delegation met with Yu Fei, Deputy Dean of the School of Electronic and Communication Engineering. Yu Fei presented our university’s collaborative model with Huawei and introduced our approach to training students in alignment with societal needs. This was followed by a meeting with the School of Automotive and Transportation Engineering, where Deputy Dean Cui Hongwei introduced our partnership with BYD and shared a case of faculty training with Thailand’s national vocational institutions. In the afternoon, the delegation toured the Greater Bay Area Vocational Education Park and the School of Future Technology, where they expressed high praise for the innovative and practical skills of our students.
Marcelo and Maria José were especially impressed with our hands-on teaching methods and the “Nine Joint” model of university-enterprise collaboration. Maria José noted BYD’s popularity in Brazil and expressed that our approach—tailoring academic and research focus to regional strengths—offers valuable insights for UFES. Both sides expressed a desire to establish a closer partnership, enhancing faculty and student exchanges, research collaboration, and vocational training, bringing new vitality to the development of both institutions.
