In the 8^thChina International “Internet+” College Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, which ended on November 13, our team made great achievementsagain! Three projects, i.e. “Bladder Examination Expert” (early screening of bladder cancer), “Bridge Master” (bridge underwater structure distress detection) and “Intelligent Precision Monitoring” (online monitoring of metal cutting tool damage), won two gold medals and one silver medal in the creative group of the “Vocational Education Track”, with a gold medal rate is 1.08/10,000, which can be said to be one in 10,000. SZPT continues to take a leading position among vocational colleges nationwide in medal count.

Theprize-winning projects focus on the industry needsand the difficulties in people’s livelihood

Inview of such problems as difficulty in early diagnosis with the existing bladder cancer detection technology, being slow to issue reports, and high detection cost, the gold prize-winning project “Bladder Examination Expert” developed a bladder cancer quantitative detector with independent intellectual property rights, featuring low cost, fast detection, minimally invasive trace, quantitative detection and other advantages; in view of three problems, i.e. low efficiency, big error and high cost of bridge underwater structure detection, “Bridge Master” independently developed two core products: underwater sonar differential locator and underwater 3D laser scanner, which were tested in practice by increasing the effective detection rate of underwater bridge distress from 75% to 98%,shortening the original construction period by 60%, and reducing the detection cost by 40% in the Changzhou Bridge project. Based on the current, voltage, sound, vibration and acoustic emission signals in the machining process of CNC machine tools and combined with artificial intelligence technology, the silverprize-winning project “Intelligent Precision Monitoring” developed an intelligent online monitoring system to prevent any cutting tool damage or any damage caused to the machine tools and high-value workpieces as a result of accidental breakage in the machining process.

All the three projects focus on the industry needs and the difficulties in people’s livelihood, with strong practicability and high technological content, which reflects SZPT teams’ ability to “find and solve problems” and concept of “zero distance from the actual needs”. The three projects are based on the research achievements of the Institute of Intelligent Manufacturing and the Institute of Artificial Intelligence. Members of the entrepreneurial team are from the School of Artificial Intelligence, the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, the School of Automotive and Transportation Engineering, the School of Electric and Communication Engineering, the School of Construction Engineering, the School of Communication, the School of Foreign Languages and Business, the School of Economics, and the School of Management, forming a high-level interdisciplinary team.

Create an innovation and entrepreneurship education paradigm and curriculum system

This year marks the 10^thanniversary of the School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship at SZPT. In the past ten years, the School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship has gradually explored an effective innovation and entrepreneurship education paradigm and curriculum system. Twin with the “Internet+” College Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, “Lihu Innovation Camp” is rooted in the practical education aspect in the advanced innovation and entrepreneurship education system at SZPT. After three years of continuous iteration, as a high-quality, efficient and lightweight business management education product, it has become a practical example of high-quality education in the minds of students, tutors and even industry practitioners.

In line with the “Internet+” competition system, Lihu Innovation Camp is held every year. Each session is divided into four stages and lasts more than 200 days. Campers must complete about 23 customized business and general courses or workshops according to their own projects. Meanwhile, project members must complete a lot of theoretical learning, experimental training and literature reading under the guidance of academic tutors. The professional knowledge, industrial knowledge and business knowledge learned in Innovation Camp as well as the team spirit and comprehensive quality enhanced therefrom will ultimately benefit students for a lifetime. Members of the tutor team also come from various schools and all sectors of society. They have different academic and research backgrounds. Like the students, their growth in the entrepreneurial practice and competition is also remarkable. Through the preparation for competition, the teachers have made up for the shortcomings in respect of engineering and business outside their own major, making their teaching and scientific research more directional and down-to-earth.

Promote education through competition and boost the construction of a world-class college

It is reported that the 8^thChina International “Internet+” College StudentInnovation and Entrepreneurship Competition is co-hosted by 12 ministries and commissions including the Ministry of Education together with Chongqing Municipal People’s Government. Since its launch on April 8, a total of 2.81 million projects and 12.1 million students registered for the competition, setting a new high in both the number of projects and the number of applicants. The Guangdong Provincial Competition, launched in April, attracted 165 colleges, 375,300 projects and 1.558 million participants, 1.5 times the number of projects and 1.53 times the number of participants in the previous competition.In the provincial final held on July 14 this year, SZPT won 9 gold medals and 7 silver medals, leading the higher vocational track again in the number of gold medals.

Next year, the 9^thChina International “Internet+” Competition in Guangdong Province will be jointly organized by Shenzhen Municipal People’s Government and Shenzhen University.Playing at home gives the SZPT team more confidence. The tutor team from the School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship has begun to go deep into the secondary schools and l institutes to explore high-quality projects with the potential of business transformation and competition competitiveness, with an expectation to promote education through competition and boost SZPT to build itself into a world-class vocational college.
