At 10:00 on the morning of October 12, the 2020 Opening Ceremony was held at the Concert Hall, Liuxiandong Campus.Yang Xinbin, Secretary of the Party Committee and President of Shenzhen Polytechnic, Wang Hui, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Secretary of the Committee for Discipline Inspection, Vice Presidents Wen Xidong, Ma Xiaoming, Dong Chaojun, and Li Yue, all on-campus members of the Party Committee, and responsible persons of functional offices and colleges attended the ceremony to witness the sailing of the freshmen enrolled in 2020 by Shenzhen Polytechnic.Dong Chaojun, Vice President of Shenzhen Polytechnic, presided over the ceremony.

Among 8,573 Freshmen, 693 Receive the Freshmen Scholarship

693 freshmen received the freshmen scholarship.

The Opening Ceremony kicked off along with the resounding national anthem. Wang Hui gave the prize to the freshmen scholarship winners. This year, Shenzhen Polytechnic planned to enroll 9,000 students (excluding students enrolled through the expansion of higher vocational colleges and those from Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan) from 15 provinces (autonomous regions) and actually enrolled 8,573 students. A total of 693 freshmen whose scores reached the regular college admission line and ranked among the top 10% of the enrolled students from different provinces (autonomous regions) were granted the freshmen scholarship. Later, Lin Zhifeng, a winner of the honorary title at the 15th Annual University Student Award in Guangdong and a graduate in communication in 2020 shared his golden tips for study and living in Shenzhen Polytechnic. Cao Jie, a winner of the "Top 10 Young Teachers in Shenzhen" and teacher at the College of Business and Foreign Languages sent freshmen the first wishes and blessings in the autumn.

At the ceremony, Yang Xinbin delivered a speech titled "Going Farther with a Firm Faith in Mind". He pointed out that Shenzhen Polytechnic has come out top in the number of national teaching achievement awards, the National Natural Science Foundation of China Program, the awards obtained from the National Vocational Students Skill Competition, etc. In addition, Shenzhen Polytechnic has taken first place among Chinese higher vocational colleges concerning competitiveness for 5 consecutive years and successfully inscribed on the list of the Construction plan of High-level Vocational Colleges & Specialties with Chinese Characteristics (A-level). He told students, "Shenzhen Polytechnic is confident in and capable of providing you with a first-class study environment and facilitating your growth."

Yang Xinbin remarked, the world is undergoing once-in-a-century changes, and the Chinese nation is also at a critical moment of realizing the great rejuvenation. In this special context, freshmen should think seriously about how to spend their campus life and realize their dreams. He offered three pieces of advice to freshmen. First, keep the faith and light up the spirit of patriotic struggle. Develop the loyal faith of patriotic struggle and integrate individual development into the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. Second, forge ahead and lay a solid foundation for future achievements. Find the correct position, study and train hard, combine learning with practice and convert the faith into the driving force. Third, abide by self-discipline and live a healthy, positive, and wonderful life. Develop good habits and make unremitting efforts to realize goals and lofty ideals.

Freshmen Read the School Motto, and All Teachers and Students Sing the Ode to the Motherland

All teachers and students waved the five-starred red flags and sang the Ode to the Motherland.

Afterward, all freshmen stood up and read the school motto three times: Value Morals and Profession Equally, Make Ceaseless Self-improvement. This year marks the 71st anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China and the 40th anniversary of the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone. Shenzhen Polytechnic is in a vital stage to build the world's first-class vocational college. At the end of the ceremony, all teachers and students waved the five-starred red flags and sang the Ode to the Motherland, to jointly may the motherland prosper, the school bloom, and all freshmen succeed in their study.

The Educational Technology and Information Center of Shenzhen Polytechnic live-streamed the opening ceremony and various colleges organized freshmen outside the venue to watch the ceremony through live streaming.

Good morning.

After the dual test by the COVID-19 pandemic and the college entrance examination, we meet each other at this prosperous and appealing city Shenzhen. Today, we hold the Opening Ceremony for our freshmen enrolled in 2020 to witness 8,573 freshmen joining our big family. Here, on behalf of all teachers and students of Shenzhen Polytechnic, I'd like to extend my sincere welcome to all of you.

Dear students, you chose the Shenzhen Polytechnic, a polytechnic established in 1993. As of now, we have 14 secondary colleges and 80 majors. We have 1,387 full-time teachers, including 229 professors, 655 associate professors, 470 doctors, 2 experts enjoying special allowances from the State Council, 7 Pearl River scholars, 28 overseas high-level talents, and 1 Huang Danian Teacher Team approved by the Ministry of Education. For 27 years after its founding, Shenzhen Polytechnic has taken root in Shenzhen, grown together with the special economic zone, and made outstanding achievements in school running. Shenzhen Polytechnic has come out top in the number of national teaching achievement awards, the National Natural Science Foundation of China Program, the awards obtained from the National Vocational Students Skill Competition, etc. In addition, Shenzhen Polytechnic has taken first place among Chinese higher vocational colleges concerning competitiveness for 5 consecutive years. In 2019, Shenzhen Polytechnic was successfully inscribed on the list of the Construction plan of A-level High-level Vocational Colleges & Specialties with Chinese Characteristics. In October 2019, Sun Chunlan, a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and Vice Premier of the State Council visited our school and recognized our schooling results. She emphasized that “The school-running pattern can be comparable with that of Germany and “Shenzhen Polytechnic compares to Tsinghua University in China's vocational education.” Thus, please believe that Shenzhen Polytechnic is confident in and capable of providing you with a first-class study environment and facilitating your growth.

Dear students, the world is undergoing once-in-a-century changes, and the Chinese nation is also at a critical moment of realizing the great rejuvenation. China will finish building a moderately prosperous society, realize the first centenary goal soon, and launch the second centenary goal. Entering the college in this special context, you should think seriously about how to spend your campus life and realize your dreams. As an educator, I'd like to offer you some advice for your consideration.

First, please keep the faith and light up the spirit of patriotic struggle.

Faith is a lifetime spiritual pillar that decides the direction of life. This year, all Chinese people have been impressively touched by the two winners of the Medal of the Republic. One is academician Yuan Longping, "the Father of Hybrid Rice", who grew up in the age of war. The tough environment and turbulent times didn't hinder him from serving the country. He has a dream that he could enjoy the cool underneath the rice crops. To this end, he has devoted his life to the research on hybrid rice and made remarkable contributions to solving the food shortage in China. The other one is the famous respiratory expert Zhong Nanshan. When the pandemic was at its worst, he who kept the national interest in mind offered the basic judgment of "human-to-human transmission" and proposed to take stricter prevention and control measures, effectively narrowing the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. As young university students in the new era, you should learn the patriotic sentiment from academicians Yuan Longping and Zhong Nanshan, develop the loyal faith of patriotic struggle, shoulder the responsibilities and missions given by the era for the great rejuvenation, integrate your ambitious youth dreams into the great Chinese dream and your individual development into the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, and provide wisdom and power for the national rejuvenation.

Second, please forge ahead and lay a solid foundation for future achievements.

Actions are the power embodying the faith. Becoming a university student is a new start of your life. From today on, you will forge ahead, show distinctive selves on this broader stage, and lay a solid foundation for future achievements. Firstly, define your goals and make your plans. You should find new positions, set new goals, and think seriously about the purpose of attending university and the future career, make career planning, and then set learning goals and make learning plans based on the career planning to guide your academic study on campus. Secondly, study hard and practice skills. You should attend each class carefully, practice skills, lay a solid theoretical basis, and develop good skills. Also, you need to actively take part in various skill competitions at all levels to constantly improve your professional competence. At last, combine learning with practice and dare to practice. You should actively participate in social groups, social practice, volunteer services, and innovation and entrepreneurship activities to learn and grow in practice.

Third, please abide by self-discipline and live a healthy, positive, and wonderful life.

Self-discipline is the guarantee of success. Zhu Xi, a famous Neo-Confucianist in the Song Dynasty, remarked, "If a man does not work with stamina and diligence, he will be downcast day by day; if a man does not restrain himself, he will be rule-less day by day", indicating a man should be optimistic, positive, and self-disciplined. The university will see your vital transformation from "external control" to "self-discipline". Only when you abide by self-disciple can you resist the lure of life, better manage your life and study, and make unremitting efforts to realize goals and lofty ideals. Thus, I suggest you develop three good habits. First, develop a good routine. Go to bed and get up early. Please do not addict to online games or stay up late for dramas, thus ensuring sufficient energy for study. Second, develop a good reading habit. Grasp scientific reading methods and make full use of spare time to read various books to develop your knowledge and thinking systems. Third, develop a good exercise habit. Amid the pandemic, academician Zhong Nanshan in his eighties is still healthy and energetic because he has persisted in exercise over the past decades. I hope you can learn from academician Zhong Nanshan and start to develop a good exercise habit and build a healthy body from now on.
