SZPT Students Won the Second Prize in National College Intelligent Car Competition

Date: Sep 5, 2022

In the morning of August 22, a total of 268 teams from all over the country gathered in the gymnasium of Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology for the final of the 17thNational College Intelligent Car Competition. Our team “Jueying” won the second prize with an excellent result of 54.474 seconds in the fierce competition of the four-wheel electromagnetic group.

The “Jueying” intelligent car creation team consists of Luo Wanru, Chen Tianchuan and Su Ziqiang, sophomores of the School of Automotive and Transportation Engineering, all of whom are members of SZPT Intelligent Car Association. In the South China Division Trials of the National College Intelligent Car Competition, which ended on July 25, the association had seven participating teams, including the four-wheel electromagnetic group, the four-wheel camera group, the multi-vehicle formation group, the balanced cycling group, the intelligent vision group, the ultra-fast cross-country group and the aerospace logistics group, among which, the “Jueying” team of the four-wheel electromagnetic group entered the national final with an outstanding score of the top 33% in national ranking; other teams also won one second prize, two third prizes and three winning prizes in the South China Division.

Due to the COVID-19, the final of the competition was held both online and offline. Compared with online, the offline competition was shorter in time and more uncertain. In spite of this, our team still resolutely chose to participate in the more difficult and complex offline challenge. During the 15-minute heats in the afternoon of July 21, the inductive sensor on the intelligent car completely failed to detect the signals of the track, and the team failed to finish the race smoothly. In the evening, the instructor Zhang Yachen and the team members repeated the 15-minute competition process, adjusted the strategy and modified the code. Within 8 minutes of the final on 22nd, two team members, Luo Wanru and Su Ziqiang, fought against the clock, calmly responded and successfully solved emergencies one after another. Finally, the intelligent car sped smoothly on the track for 2 laps, finishing the race with a time of 39.474 seconds, leaving only a small regret of added 15 seconds for no entry into parking space. The offline final is a limit test for the participating team members, which fully shows the style of students who are not afraid of difficulties, resist pressure and overcome themselves, and also gives them a satisfactory answer for more than one year of intelligent car study.
