An Overview of Shenzhen Polytechnic School of Art
Established in 1993, the School of Art and Design is one of the first schools set up at Shenzhen Polytechnic. The School presently consists of six academic departments: Environmental Design, Fashion Design, Product Design, Jewelry Craft and Design, Visual Communication Design, and Arts and Crafts Design. It also has a functional department for basic teaching and research purposes. SAD currently offers a total of 13 majors, with an enrollment of 1,612 students and 83 faculty members, which include 9 professors and 35 associate professors. Located in the design capital of Shenzhen, the School of Art and Design has produced a number of art and design talents, who have become the mainstay of the industry in the PRD region. In recent years, the School of Art and Design students, under the guidance of the School, have achieved great success in major domestic and international competitions with more than 200 awards received, which include the first prize in the National Vocational Students Skills Competition, the iF Design Award and the Red Dot Design Award. Meanwhile, the School of Art and Design lecturers have received over 200 awards for their tremendous works in exhibitions at home and abroad, of which over 100 have been collected by professional institutions such as museums and galleries at the national level. Special exhibitions of the School of Art and Design faculty and students’ work were showcased at the Milan Design Week 2017 in Italy and the London Design Festival 2018 in the UK. Besides that, the School of Art and Design was tasked with designing sportswear for the 26th Summer Universiade, costumes for the 19th International Botanical Congress, and porcelain for banquets at the SCO Qingdao Summit 2018, all of which were highly appreciated by the community.
