    "Communication and Mood Adjustment" - 5.25 Psychological Month Lecture

    At 18:30, May 20, “Communication and Mood Adjustment” - 5.25 Psychological Month lecture was held at Room 306 on the East Campus. The main lecturer was Wang Yuexin, who is a senior lecturer of mental health and a psychological counselor in this field.

     

    Miss Wang gave a presentation in details on the interpersonal communication and some relevant skills of appearance, expression, listening, rejection on communicating. She pointed out that giving a proper smile, expressing moderately, listening skillfully and admiring sincerely, as well as learning how to reject euphemistically and shift one’s attention, is of great importance in communicating. Considering the communicative effects and the reactions of others, it’s better to convey self emotion first and then make clear what happened. The dialectics supports to analyze from every side. Finding the key to his or her heart will make a wonderful communication.

     

    At the end of the lecture, Miss Wang imparted some methods to control emotions, including four emotional alleviation tips. Firstly, Human beings’ performances are always related to thoughts passing through their mind. As a result, changing your physical state can make it. The second point is to call away your attention, which also means paying more attention to what you want but not what you are scared of. Thirdly, asking yourself some native question about the future in order to obtain power to strive. The last one is to do self-hypnosis.

     

    By the end of the lecture, Miss Wang instructed the students to do a self-hypnosis exercise. Following her instructions everyone tried to free their joints from pressure, from head, shoulders, legs to feet. All participants acted on the advice, and they seem to be in a state of relaxation, against the noise from the air-conditioners. After about half an hour, the students came into themselves under the directions, they said this exercise was actually helpful to release themselves from tension and promised to try it when busy work messes up their life.

     

    The lecture ended up at 20:35, but there were still many students asking questions about communicating problems. Miss Wang met all the requests in patience.

     

    The lecture gives a platform for the students to learn something and to have a touch with hypnosis which they are really interested in. In recent years, unbalanced state of mind has become a big problem of causing sub-health. With the employment pressure, the university students are said to be at high risk in terms of sub-health. So this lecture aims at helping both college and college students to balance attitudes between study and jobs, to live more healthily instead of suffering from pressure and bad emotions caused from work and study. - By Yuki Lily, our student correspondent
