1. COMPUTER AIDED DESIGN/COMPUTER AIDED MANUFACTURING
This specialty (Computer Aided Design/Computer Aided Manufacture, for short CAD/CAM) is one of the largest specialties in Shenzhen Polytechnic, serving for the development of mechanical and mould industry, and the improvement of computer application technology. Based on the technique of computer, the students can deal with all kinds of digital information and image information, and complete mechanical design and the acts of advanced manufacturing. This specialty is the result of development of computer integrated applications. There are two directions in this specialty: CAD/CAM and mould design & manufacturing.
This specialty has been appraised an experimental major of higher vocational education reform by the Ministry of Education. It has been confirmed a demonstration major during countrywide polytechnics and passed the examination of higher vocational education reform by both the Ministry of Education and the Education Department of Guangdong Province. And in December 2006, it was appraised as the first national demonstration higher vocational colleges′ key construction specialty.
The graduates from our specialty must gain excellent diathesis for the socialistic development. They should not only have professional foundational knowledge such as machine and mould design and manufacturing, CAD/CAM, but also have abundant practical abilities of applying CAD/CAM major software, processing technics design of Computer Numerical Control Technology, programming and handling modern computer numerical control machine. They should be capable of undertaking the design, manufacturing, research of mechanical devices and the technology of its automation. At the same time they should be advanced engineers for managing and applying the macaroni technology.
Manufacturing Process of Machinery, Mechanical Principle and Design, Plastic Mould Design, Cold-Punching Mould Design, Non-traditional Machining Technology, CNC Machine, MasterCAM, UG-CAD, UG-CAM, Pro/E, CNC Machining Technics Curriculum Design, CNC Machine Skill Practice and Mould CAD/CAM Practice.
The graduates can obtain employment in mechanical industry, electronic industry, light industry, toy industry, horological industry, and so on. They can undertake CAD/CAM of mould and macaroni devices, programming and operation of CNC machine, operation of wire-cutting machine and electricity discharging machine, design of frock-jig, managing and maintenance of product line, and distribution of macaroni products, etc.
2.NUMERICAL CONTROL TECHNOLOGY
The aim of Numerical Control Technology is to bring up professionals of Numerical Control Technology and Application, who are good at not only professional knowledge but also practice.
The major has qualified teachers, good equipment and perfect practice conditions.
Numerical Control Technology & Application aims to bring up senior professionals. They must master the basic principle of modern NC technology and be acquainted with the structure and the performance of NC system and equipment. They must have the skills to operate, manage and maintain modern NC systems and equipment.
Interface and PLC Application of NC Machine, Driving and Control of NC Machine, NC Machine and System, Fault Diagnosis and Maintenance of NC Machine, Miller Machining Practice, Operation Practice of NC Machine, Installment and Modulation Practice of NC Machine, Maintenance Practice of NC Machine, Interface Programming Practice of NC Machine and Senior Technicians Training of Maintenance of NC Machine.
Employment will be obtained in the field of Assembly, Modulation, Maintenance and Inspection of NC Machine, Programming and Machining of NC Machine, and Management and Marketing in enterprises.
3.INSPECTION & TESTING TECHNOLOGY & APPLICATION
Inspection & Testing Technology & Application which began to enroll students in September in 2004, is a new major founded in Shenzhen Polytechnic, aiming to elevate the quality of the products and the international competitive power. It is in accordance with the goal of establishing a manufacturing center in Shenzhen and Zhujiang Delta. With the growing awareness of quality, safety and efficiency, inspection technology has been widely applied to assure quality and safety of products, as well as to enhance the production efficiency and competitive power, during the whole lifecycle of products, for instance, the inspection of raw materials and products, production process, products service and maintenance in manufacturing industry.
The students should be trained to have comprehensive competition. Students are required to grasp the basic theories and skills for the inspection of normal engineering materials, components and products with nondestructive inspection, material testing and geometric testing. The students should be trained as senior technicians in quality inspection, quality control and quality management of products in the manufacturing industry.
Mechanical Manufacturing Foundation, Acoustic Testing- Theory & Practice, Electromagnetic Testing-Theory & Practice, Radiographic Testing, Penetration Testing, Material Testing-Theory & Practice, Geometric Testing-Theory & Practice, Quality Management and Accreditation, English for Science, Comprehensive Practice for Inspection and Testing.
Employment will be obtained in the field of mechanical and electrical industry, light industry, construction, petrochemical, electric power and transportation industry(airplanes, railway, ship, automobile), and intermediary agency as well for quality inspection, quality control, quality management, training, developing and marketing of inspection and testing equipment.
4. ELECTRIC AUTOMATION TECHNOLOGY
The Department of Electric Automation Technology is in accordance with the demand of market economy, as well as the goal of establishing a manufacturing center in Shenzhen and Zhujiang Delta. With more than 10 years endeavor, the department boasts excellent staff and equipment, which can produce outstanding students. The major accomplishes quite a lot in course design, and two courses are regarded as the excellent courses in our country: Electric Control and PLC, Electrotechnics & Electrical Measuring Technology.
The specialty makes a point of cultivating students' occupational accomplishment and operating ability. Students have well-established foundation knowledge, high integration making and strong innovation ability. 80% of the graduates obtain the advanced electrician certificate; therefore, the graduates have received a warm welcome by enterprises.
The specialty aims at cultivating the high applying-technological professionals with electrical automation theory and application skills, possessed of innovation consciousness and abilities; cultivating students with theory of electronics, single chip control and computer network; being familiar with the working principles of electrical equipment in common use and the foundation principles and means of electrical control using computer technology; having strong abilities to run, maintain, integrate the automation control systems, abilities to design and abilities to manage enterprises.

The graduates are mainly engaged in design, production, management in design institute, electrical, electronic, and controlling enterprises etc.; they will be capable of the running, maintenance, management and marketing of automation product devices and controlling systems in manufacturing enterprises; on the manufacture, management and after service of electrical and automation devices & measuring instruments; on the installing, debugging, running and servicing of power supply and distribution systems in large buildings, industries, and enterprises.
Electronic information industry, biomedical industry, new materials and new energy industry, automation and mechatronics industry are listed as Shenzhen's four foundation industries during the period of "Tenth Five-Year Plan". Shenzhen Municipal Government will focus on the development of seventeen industries from four categories. Twelve industries out of these three categories are closely connected with machatronics technology. Shenzhen government will give priorities to the development of some typical mechatronics products such as robot, electronic manufacturing equipment, laser processing equipment and medical instruments.
The mechatronics technology is established to meet the need of sharply increasing demand for mechatronics technology talents. It began enrollment in September 2005.
The school of encourage and guide students in all-round development. Students must have solid foundation of theoretical knowledge and broad background in their specialty. They must have skills to manage, operate, maintain and sell equipment related to mechatronics technology.
Basis of Mechanical Designing, Basis of Precise Machinery, Motion Control Technology, Basis of Detecting and Control, Hydraulic Pressure and Pneumatics, Electric Control and PLC, Robotics, Robot Programming Technology, Mechatronics Technology.
Graduates can expect to obtain employment in the manufacturing field. They are competent in the layout, management, installation, modulation and maintenance of mechatronics equipment(robot, laser processing equipment, common mechatronics equipment, etc). They can research, develop and design products. They are also qualified to work as marketing and technical service talents in mechatronics industry companies.
6.BUILDING INTELLIGENCE ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY
This specialty was founded in 1996, aiming at the great demand for building intelligence engineering construction and real estate managers, with the rapid development of Shenzhen economy, and it is one of the earliest intelligent building specialties inChina. It has three branches: Building Intelligence Technology, In-door Condition Regulation, and Electric Automation.
The specialty is the four-year reform test specialty of higher vocational education of the Education Ministry as well as the key specialty of Shenzhen Polytechnic. In December 2006, it was appraised as the first national demonstration higher vocational colleges′key construction specialty.
It has made outstanding achievements in professional courses construction, and Building Automation Technology was appraised as a national excellent course of 2006.
The graduates are required to gain excellent diathesis as practical engineering technicians and administrators, master the skills of operation management and maintenance of common mechanical equipment in building, be familiar with examination and repair of common electric equipment. They are also expected to have abilities of designing and testing fire-fighting, safety and security, building automation and generic cabling system.

7. HEATING, VENTILATION AND AIR CONDITIONING ENGINEERING
Due to rapid social and economical development in Shenzhen and its surrounding areas, there is a huge demand for highly qualified Heating, Ventilation and Air-conditioning (HVAC) professionals who can design, control, and manage various kinds of HVAC systems, as well as survey and control Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) in buildings. The HVAC specialty is exactly established to meet that strong demand. The specialty offers our students full scale training in all relevant fields, and it integrates various industrial technologies such as HVAC system design, automation and control, building equipment management and maintenance, fire-protection in high-rise buildings, water supply and drainage technologies, as well as the technology of construction and costing for equipment installation projects.
Students are to obtain their college diplomas. After several years of study, the students should master refrigeration and air-conditioning technology, as well as fundamentals of indoor air quality survey and control. In addition, the students should be familiar with the principles, components, design, management, construction management plan, and maintenance of various air-conditioning systems. The successful study completion leads the students to be professionals with advanced abilities of technology, management and marketing, etc.

The graduates can work for design companies, property management companies, power branch of enterprises, engineering installation companies, professional service companies, etc. And in the field of comfort and clean (industrial) HVAC engineering, they can engage in design, operation and management, indoor environment survey and control, HVAC engineering installation and management, diagnosis and maintenance for HVAC&R equipment, trade and secretary in correlative enterprise, etc.
Faculty & Staff
SMEE employs a strong faculty of 129 full-time staff members, including 19 doctors and 70 masters, 11 professors and 56 associate professors, among whom 1 is honored as “National Teaching Master” and 3 are honored as “Gold teachers of Shenzhen Polytechnic”. 70% of our teachers are “dual-skilled”, and in addition, we’ve employed 200 part-time teachers from enterprises.
Professor Zhu Guangli has received many awards, including Excellent Teacher Award of Guangdong Province in 1999, the 2nd Best Teacher Award of Guangdong Province in 2006, and the 4th National Best Teacher Award of the Ministry of Education in 2008.
SMEE currently has 7 courses conferred as “National Quality Courses”, namely, Electric Control and PLC, Electrotechnician and electric measurement Technology, Hydraulic and Pneumatic, Building Automation Technology, Communication Networks and Integrated Wiring, CAD/CAM, Nontraditional Machining Technology. Engineering Drafting, Numerical Control Machines Fault Diagnosis and Maintenance , Numerical Control Machines PLC Control and Testing are conferred as Provincial Quality Courses.
SMEE has established long-term and cooperative relationship with IVE (Haking Wong). On 17 June 2008, SMEE and IVE(Haking Wong) signed an agreement on starting a joint course of Higher Diploma in Cross-border Electrical Services Engineering. This course is designed for secondary 5 graduates from HongKong, who will attend lessons both at SMEE and IVE(Haking Wong), and get diplomas of the two schools. The course is approved by the Ministry of Education, and strictly organized and run in accordance with courses in Hongkong. On 13 May 2009, SMEE received an accreditation visit from Hongkong Institution of Engineers accreditation board, and successfully passed the accreditaion. On 4 March 2010, SMEE received 12 students from Hongkong to start the course of Higher Diploma in Cross-border Electrical Services Engineering.
