Department of Ideological & Moral Cultivation and Legal Basis
As a saying goes, “Talents or not, moral education counts!” In the spirit of this saying, the Department of Ideological & Moral Cultivation and Legal Basis (Hereinafter referred to as the Department) is mainly responsible for the teaching of Ideological & Moral Cultivation and Legal Basis and a series of Humanistic Education Courses designed for college students.
The Department is currently home to 9 members, including 8 full-time teachers and 1 part-time lecturer. This is a highly professional team with high academic qualifications, full subject coverage and reasonable title structure. The faculty is considerably influential in the field of Ideological & Moral Cultivation in Guangdong Province and even in the whole nation. Firstly, the teachers of the Department enjoy high academic qualifications. Four of them graduated from the national key universities and received a doctoral degree, including 2 with a postdoctoral degree from Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. The other five teachers have achieved postgraduate qualifications. Secondly, the Department boasts a full range of subjects covering philosophy, political science, law, pedagogy, and ideological & political education. The faculty has also developed a broad academic vision and unique teaching style. Despite their abundant teaching experience, they often exchange views about teaching with each other. With an obligation to fulfill the teaching objectives, the teachers have achieved satisfactory results.
The teachers of the Department consider classroom instruction as their top priority and actively take up related researches on some frontier subjects. In recent years, the teaching staff has presided over or participated in a couple of academic research programs including those supported by China Postdoctoral Foundation, as well as some key teaching and research programs at provincial, municipal and school levels. They have published a couple of academic works and dozens of high-quality papers in the "Philosophy Research" and other important academic journals, providing a continuous driving force for teaching.
Against the background that today’s society is developing rapidly and the wheel of history is rolling forward, there is still a long way for the improvement of social ethics. It is therefore of great significance to improve college students’ ideological and moral qualities and legal awareness. All the teachers of the Department will continue to explore effective teaching approaches that comply with the students’ nature and meet the social needs so as to improve students’ moral qualities.
