    The School of Construction and Environment Engineering, established in December 2004 was formerly the Construction Engineering Department which was founded in 1997. The school includes the Faculty of Construction Management which contains seven sections— the Faculty of Construction Cost, the Faculty of Building Electricity Engineering, the Faculty of Building Design Technology, the Faculty of Water Supply and Drainage Technology, the Faculty of Estate Management, and the faculty of Environmental Engineering. Additionally, there are two inter-departmental institutes within the school namely The Building Design Research Institute and the Institute for Water Research.

    The School has 62 highly-qualified members of the teaching staff which include 23 professors and associate professors, 7 overseas talents and 23 engineering experts. Over 80% of the teachers have a Master’s degree and 13 of them have gained a Doctorate degree. More than 80% of the teachers have an industrial background or hold vocational certificates and diplomas.

    The school has strong research and teaching programs. During recent years, it has issued more than 230 research papers and published 30 books. The school has also completed 35 scientific research projects, of which three have been sponsored by National Science funds and four by Provincial Natural Science funds. There are also four projects financially-aided by the Bureau of Shenzhen Municipality. The projects have yielded encouraging outcomes—six technological achievements were exhibited in the China Hi-Tech Fair(CHTF) and five national patents were gained.

    More than 2,600 students have graduated from the School, and more than 91% of the graduate found suitable jobs immediately upon graduation. Currently, there are over 1,400 students enrolled in the school, all of which are studying a three-year program.

    There are three on-campus laboratories in the School: the Industry Water-saving & Municipal Wastewater Reuse Technology Key Laboratory sponsored by Shenzhen Municipality, the Construction Engineering Laboratory and Environmental Engineering Laboratory, under which 8 branches have been set up consisting of construction design, construction materials, construction management, quantity surveying, mechanical and electricity, landscape technology, environment supervision and water science. The School is a member of the Shenzhen Construction Association, Shenzhen Construction Cost Engineers Association, and Shenzhen Environment Industrial Protection Association. In addition, the school has a long-term cooperation with 25 local enterprises.

    Furthermore, the school has active international cooperation and has established long-term relationships with lots of overseas universities, Wolverhampton University in UK, Korean Dongyang Technical College. We welcome national and international professors and students to build strong relationships with us.


    Teaching Features

    The School of Building & Environment Engineering aims to cultivate professional, skillful, and creative talents with high quality and adheres to the "all for students " management concept, and has made great achievements in the fields of education thought, party construction, social practice with various efforts and cooperation.

    The root of quality education is virtue education. In the beginning of the new term, the school  will guide them to master the detailed learning method, and establish the solid specialized thoughts. For the sophomore and junior students, kinds of engineering contests will be held to re-educate on professional thoughts and give job instructions.

    The construction of party is the basis of the construction for students. To let students deeply grasp the party's line, principles and policies, get familiar with the history of the party, the students' party branch committee and the student party organizes life conference regularly, the students are organized to teach children construction engineering technology. The school committee was awarded "the best innovative committee", and its subordinates were honored as “5, 4 Red Flag Party Committee” many times.


    Construction Management

    Students are trained to master comprehensive construction management skills, building structural design specifications, computer-aided design abilities, structural computing abilities and worksite management skills. They are competent in front-line work in the field of construction design and project management.

    Students are trained for cost analysis and contract management skills in the field of civil engineering, device installation and decoration engineering, the latest cost management skills and regulations, construction materials knowledge and local construction laws and regulations.

    Property Management

    Students are trained with estate management capabilities in order to have good theoretical knowledge and communication skills in general practice. Students are familiar with property management laws and regulations, and are able to process routine management and operational work.

    Estate Management and Valuation

    Students are trained with construction budget, construction cost management and project economic appraisal knowledge. They should be familiar with the procedure of real estate investment and development and should be competent enough to do investment analysis, marketing planning, evaluation and real estate broking.

    Building Electricity Technology

    Students are trained to master the design, construction and management techniques of certain projects including building electricity and fire engineering, facilities management and the basic theories and skills of building facilities automation management. They should be competent in the process of building electricity construction and maintenance.

Upon completion of the course, they should be able to undertake posts in the field of environmental pollution treatment and environmental management.

    The school trains students with good comprehensive ability and appreciation of esthetics. Students must master basic theoretical knowledge and methods of architectural design, focus on building structure and detailed drawing design, have good application of CAD, be able to skillfully make construction and decoration drawings, and make 3D drawings and animation works.

    Elaborate Course

    Construction Drawing Design

    This course is the technical expertise of professional architectural design practice course, its mission is to enable students to master the building design during the building drawing stage of expression and focus required to grasp the depth of architectural design requirements, make students to be familiar with the relevant building specification, state and local common standards, etc. .

    Learning this course, we should help students to achieve the following basic requirements: 1. Understand the architectural design principles and methods and procedures. 2. The initial conditions and to carry out architectural design capability. 3. Master architectural drawing method, the depth of construction design requirements. 4. Conversant with the relevant building specification, state and local common standards .

    Curriculum design start from a professional curriculum development, according to occupational status and capacity analysis, task-driven learning and case studies combined a phased learning environment designed to simulate the working process, using the relevant teaching techniques, explore the combination of engineering training model.

    The School of Building and Environmental Engineering has a active teaching and research team, according to its own characteristics, in close connection with industry, business needs, and vigorously carry out forward-looking, exploring nature, originality of the vertical and horizontal subject topics for basic research, industry and business services.

    Our research team is focused on the nature and future development trends, aiming at the international advanced level of development directions, and actively start a new technology, new trends, new areas of academic research. Conducted a number of closely related with the teaching content in academic research, international cooperation.

    In recent years, SCEE has undertaken and completed 32 research projects, including the National Natural Science Fund Project 5, the provincial Natural Science Foundation of 6, 10 city-level research projects, 11 field-grade subjects, received 3 national patent items.     Lab Introduction

    Key Laboratory of Shenzhen industrial water conservation and urban wastewater resourcization technology

    Industrial water conservation and urban wastewater resourcization technology laboratory was established in May 2007, the existing 2 professors, associate professor 3, senior engineer 4 people, joint training of 10 graduate students to undertake 17 research projects. Lab area over 400 square meters, with equipment worth more than 600 million yuan.

    The core mission of this laboratory for carrying out water-saving technology and waste water resource research, to provide enterprises with cost of the test site or testing support for business cooperation with Shenzhen Water-saving technology development and production process.   

    The laboratory is based on industrial wastewater and urban sewage as the main object of study, to be in the establishment of industrial wastewater treatment and reuse technology platform to carry out in the water reuse transmission and distribution of water purification technology research and development, to a virtuous cycle of urban water utilization system, building skills and talent cultivation and training base.

    Laboratory completed, the establishment of a high level of scientific and technological innovation platforms, innovation mechanisms, the research team and skilled personnel training platform will be in water-saving and water reuse technologies of knowledge and technological innovation for government departments to provide water conservation and water reuse with the decision-making support. At the same time, Shenzhen train involved in water conservation and water pollution control in skilled personnel.

    Training conditions

    Several construction engineering and environmental engineering laboratories in SCEE contain architectural design, construction materials, construction technology, construction surveying, building electricity and water supply and environmental monitoring divisions. The laboratories are equipped with high-quality facilities using advanced technology. The Radar for earth surveying, ultraviolet spectrometry,infrared imaging device, atomic photometer, air phase chromatogram device, liquid chromatograph,TOC surveying device are some the up-to-date equipment with a value of up to 20 million RMB.

    Apart from the laboratories, the school has also set up 25 off-campus practice units at some of the top industry companies and institutions like the Governmental Projects Auditing Center, Jianye Co. Ltd, Jinzhong Co. Ltd, Goldland Property Management Co. Ltd, Futian Property Development Co. Ltd, Shenzhen Water Plant Donghu Division, Shenzhen Road Engineering Company, Levett & Bailey, the City Civil Design Institute, Huasheng Architectural Design Company,Huayi Architectural Design Company and the Merchant & Commercial Property Management Company. All of these units provide the students with good industry practice opportunities.
