In 2006, the School of Media and Communication at Shenzhen Polytechnic was selected by the Ministry of Education for special funding to support its becoming a model vocational college, earning as it does both national and international recognition~ Founded in July 2004 from preceding schools with Shenzhen Polytechnic, the School of Media and Communication delivers eight disciplines covering graphic arts, packaging, publishing and distribution.

The disciplines offered are Graphic Communication, Graphic Technology, Publishing and Distribution plus Packaging Technology and Design. Within these disciplines, students can focus on Digital Image Manipulation, Printing Technology, Publishing Design, Media Planning and Management, Packaging Technology and Management, Graphic Design, Editing and Publishing and Electronic Publishing.

History of M&C School

China is quickly forging a significant presence in global media and graphic communication, leading to a strong domestic demand for relevant education and skill formation. Physical media, such as books, newspapers, brochures, printed advertising and packaging is co-developing, both conceptually and technically, with electronic media which includes graphic imaging, audio and video mediums.

In 2006, the School of Media and Communication at Shenzhen Polytechnic was selected by the Ministry of Education for special funding to support its becoming a model vocational college, earning as it does both national and international recognition.

Founded in July 2004 from preceding schools with Shenzhen Polytechnic, the School of Media and Communication delivers eight disciplines covering graphic arts, packaging, publishing and distribution. The disciplines offered are Graphic Communication, Graphic Technology, Publishing and Distribution plus Packaging Technology and Design.

Within these disciplines, students can focus on Digital Image Manipulation, Printing Technology, Publishing Design, Media Planning and Management, Packaging Technology and Management, Graphic Design, Editing and Publishing and Electronic Publishing.

These studies are delivered by 55 academic staff, of which three are professors, and 14 have associate professor status. The large majority have a masters or higher qualification, while most have multiple disciplines. Nearly one in five are able to teach in English. The school has invested in advanced equipment and processes for practical instruction, and this is supported by state-of-the-art multi-functional laboratories with almost 536 sets of teaching and scientific and research tools. In all this represents and investment in excess of 35 million RMB and through this investment the school seeks to support skill formation, service and research for the industry.

Thus the school is able to focus on the development of skills in applied professional techniques and processes to meet industry demand in the areas of creation, compilation, design, typography, printing, work-flow, production management and distribution. It attaches great importance to practical skills in each area, and instruction is conducted with a strong vocational basis. Graduating students are well grounded in theory and practice placing them in high demand by industry. Each year over 99% of graduating students are placed in employment, and students' artwork has won numerous prizes in national exhibitions.

The school is committed to integrating general education, skill formation, research and management training, while broadening its collaboration with relevant industry associations and enterprises. It operates a Printing Technology Centre, Print Testing Centre as well as the Training Centre, and has over 110 off-campus practice sites in addition. Industry support is reflected in the many joint projects established with international organizations including Heidelberger Druckmaschinen, Apple, Fuji-Xerox, Agfa and Esco.

The School's staff are actively engaged with industry bodies, including membership of the China Packaging Federation, Guangdong Printing & Replicating Association (Director), Shenzhen Printing Association (Deputy Chair), Commission of Hi-tech, Standardization & Testing of the Shenzhen Printing Association, Shenzhen Packaging Association (Executive Director) and the Shenzhen Publishing Association.
